When I met Ms M for her video consultation, we talked about all things: weddings, marriage, becoming a mom, and all the hats we wear as women during our lifetime. Ms M is definitely a thoughtful, introspective woman. Her desire was to preserve this special time, being young, married, and thinking of starting a family, through boudoir portraits.

Now, how many of you all would love to look back to that time in your lives and remember what it was like? I’m 20 years into my relationship with a 6 year old reminding me every day, life is not like it used to be. There was a time when it was just my husband and I, settling into our marriage and trying to “adult”. Don’t get me wrong, I love where I am at in life but man, what I wouldn’t give to jump back and bottle up some of that magic sauce! Ms M has the right idea. Boudoir portraits are the perfect way to “bottle” this magical time. Check out her story below.

What was your biggest concern prior to booking your Boudoir Session? How do you feel now?

I am certainly not your flaunt-it, confident-in-my-bra-and-underwear, wears-lingerie-frequently type of gal. But, wanted to do a boudoir session before my wedding and I never fit it in. I choose to still do one after because I knew with starting a family, both my body and my personal feelings about it might change temporarily, but it would obviously be for the good. I had worked hard to get where I was and feel comfortable in my own skin and I wanted Cassy to capture that, knowing I’d always have these photos to either encourage myself or to sit back and admire that I am more than a mom in her sweats someday trying to keep it all together! After finding her and looking through her images, I was pretty set on doing a session and was definitely convinced after our first chat!

What was your biggest concern prior to booking your Boudoir Session? How do you feel now?

How to pose and picking the right outfits for my body. Don’t sweat. Cassy had all the information I needed and more! I looked at everything she sent me and got a few outfits that I was comfortable in, and a few that were a little out of my color range and comfort. The posing was the easiest because Cassy showed me exactly where to place my hands, my legs, how to arch, and how to smile. 

What, specifically, did you enjoy most about your portrait session and why?

II felt so comfortable and confident with Cassy! For only meeting someone online via chat to wearing basically nothing.. that says something about a gal! I had such a fun time during the entire shoot and it was encouraging to see a few of the photos as the shoot went on to know I wasn’t looking ridiculous! I left there feeling more confident than I think I’ve ever been. Cassy’s got a way – I’m tellin’ ya!

What did doing this shoot do for your self confidence, self worth, and self image? Tell me your story.

Like I said, I’m not a flaunt-it girl. I’ve never been the skinny one in the room, I’m not one to wear two pieces around a large crowd, and I’m certainly not someone you’d call sexy if you saw me in my own personal habitat! Leaving the shoot, I was definitely on a confidence-high and I think that has continued since then in a way. I’ve never felt discouraged by my own body, but knowing you can look like that, feel like that, and seeing the images that Cassy took is a good reminder that our bodies are incredible. Social media can distort our body image so much, but I think this boudoir session is a good reminder that I don’t need to be a certain weight, I don’t need to get rid of my love handles, and I don’t need to look a certain way in order to feel confident in my own skin and be proud of that. That’s what I see most in my pictures – confidence and self-worth! And I have Cassy to thank for that!

Was your experience what you were expecting? If not, how was it different?

I thought I would look and feel a lot more awkward than I did. Cassy did a great job of making sure that wasn’t the case. Otherwise, I think that the hardest part was picking the images – it was definitely weird seeing myself on the projector, but it was the best way to pick them out I think and I liked being able to compare them!
