“It is a happy talent to know how to play.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson American writer
It’s not too often that we link playing and talent together but really the two go hand-in-hand. If you think back to all those fond memories of childhood playtime, I’m sure you can link those hours of creativity and wonder to something you succeed at today. And I can tell you, Chance and his baby sister are going to be two very talented people someday. We played hard on their grandpa’s farm and what fun we had!
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing Chance since he was just a few days old and it has been truly a delight watching him grow over the last three years. This isn’t our first trip to grandpa’s farm and even though it’s over an hour drive, I always look forward to it- it’s one of my favorite places to photograph. The day was predicted to be HOT- typical Iowa summer heat and humidity, so we set out to start early for safety. Chance never disappoints with his adorable character and love of life. He keeps me on my toes and we take turns daring ourselves into brave feats like wading into the stream or mooing at the cows.
I absolutely love the Tri-fusion Panel of Chance by the stream that resulted from this session. It showcases his belly laughs and personality which I enjoy so much. As his mom said, when we were picking out the images, “that is so Chance!”- makes my heart sing to create a piece of art that will forever tell who Chance was at this moment in his life.
Sweet little Greenlee- she just makes you melt when you are around her! How cute are those two images of her brother on the tractor and her in the field? She’s shaping up to be a little replica of her brother (watch out mom and dad!).
She wasn’t as excited to see my as big brother was so she snoozed a bit but what a precious momento of her enjoying the farm her mother grew up on. Life is a full circle and I am so lucky to jump into other circles to enjoy on other’s lives.
Last but not least, we had to visit the cattle barn where a brand new baby calf was waiting for us. At the tender age of 6 months, we photographed Chance with a calf on a cold October day and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity again since we were blessed with that red and white beauty.
Chance took excellent care of his little sister and mom and dad were very close by to ensure both kids’ safety. I regularly pinch myself when I have these opportunities- to create memories for families and to tell their story through art. Thanks for the day on the farm sweet little ones- it won’t be our last!
